TALENT OF OCTOBER – Sylke Golding
This October our talent Sylke agreed on a lovely small interview with her about her personal and work life so you guys can get to know her a little better.
1. How did you become a model?
The first time I became a model, I was scouted in Sweden at the age of 18. I had moved there with my family from East Germany. I was shopping at H&M with my sister when I noticed a woman following me around the store. She eventually introduced herself as a scout for Elite Model Management in Paris and asked if I was interested in modeling. She ended up doing a small test and sent the pictures to Paris, and that’s how it began.
When I hit my late 20s, it all changed. Back in the 90s, 26 years was considered too old to be a model, so I moved on.
Then, about 6 years ago, it all started back up again when I was asked if I was interested in doing a shoot. Initially, I wasn’t, but after thinking about it, I decided to do it for old times’ sake. When the story hit Instagram, everything started rolling again, and I ended up signing with Muse Management here in New York.
2. What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?
I enjoy gardening, reading, drawing, and any other activity that allows me to be creative. Walking down random streets in new cities. And of course, just hanging out with my best friends, Dalha and Yama, they are my fur-babies.
3. Tell us 3 things that make you unique.
Hmmmm, honestly, I don’t think it’s for me to say what makes me more unique than anyone else. Is there a threshold that makes some people more unique than others? I think it’s like the idea of beauty. We are all unique in our own little ways, but also very much alike.
4. What is the best compliment that you’ve ever received?
When people tell me they’re my biggest fan, and when younger models tell me that I inspire them. Also, when friends come to visit and admire my garden.
5. What is your favorite thing about your career?
I get to travel all over the world and meet a lot of very cool and creative people!
6. If you could time travel, where and when would you go?
Back to a time when my mother was still alive, so I could spend more time with her and try harder to get to know her.
7. What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Japanese and Italian
